Behind the Scenes: Singer Studios' Top 10 Highlights of 2023

Hello and happy new year from us all at Singer Studios! ⭐

We hope you’ve had a restful break and are looking forward to the year ahead.

We’re proudly looking back at what we’ve achieved in the adventure-filled past year and are pleased to share some highlights.

Firstly, there’s lots of exciting news to share about our forthcoming VR adventure narrative, The Pirate Queen: A Forgotten Legend.

We were thrilled to make a big splash in announcing the amazing Lucy Liu as our Pirate Queen. We’re hugely excited to share her extraordinary performance as Cheng Shih with you all when the game is released this year!

In June, we flew all the way to New York to share The Pirate Queen at Tribeca Film Festival, where we were honoured to be awarded the coveted Immersive Storyscapes Award.

The whole experience was a ‘pinch me’ moment for everyone involved, and we are so grateful to Tribeca for recognising the hard work and passion that has gone into making The Pirate Queen.

We also jetted off to Cologne to share The Pirate Queen as part of Gamescom’s Games Showcase. It was a pleasure to meet so many other games enthusiasts and developers! You can take a look at the clip we shared with them below.

In the press, we’ve enjoyed talking to Game Informer and Screen Rant to share yet more sneak peeks into what gamers can expect from the game, bringing Cheng Shih’s story to life and the quest for historical accuracy.

It’s also been hugely rewarding to offer an insight into the process of developing The Pirate Queen and more broadly share who we are at Singer Studios. It’s always great to get to talk about what makes us tick!

We’ve also been jam-packed with other projects outside of The Pirate Queen. Earlier this year, we launched our Women Behind the Scenes podcast, which interviews trailblazing women working across a range of roles within film to find out what drives and inspires them.

From Odessa Rae, the Producer of Oscar-winning Navalny, to Kharmel Cochrane, producer of award-winning Rye Lane, there’s a range of fascinating conversations to listen to below.

Eloise also had the pleasure to work as an executive producer on Universal’s ‘The Last Rifleman’, starring Pierce Brosnan, Clémence Poésy and John Amos. The film is inspired by real-life World War II veteran Bernard Jordan, who escaped from his care home and made his way to Normandy to attend the 70th anniversary events in 2014.

Described as ‘an astounding tearjerker of a film’ that’s a ‘love letter to war veterans’ (Indiependent), we encourage you to all check it out on Sky.

We also premiered another VR project, Mrs Benz, at SXSW and Sheffield Doc Fest as part of their XR and interactive VR divisions respectively, which was awesome.

Participants enjoyed discovering the untold story of Karl Benz's wife, Bertha, a German automotive pioneer and inventor, who sought to show the world the revolutionary ‘horseless carriage’.

We are so grateful that all of the above hard work has been reflected by a grant from the UK Global Screen Fund, which will allow us to expand and scale all of our projects, both within the UK and internationally.

This type of support is vital as it allows us to think big and get the wheels in motion for the many new ideas we’ve got up our sleeve…

Which leads us to our final reflection. This year we celebrated our 6th birthday at Singer Studios.

Whether you’ve been following our journey since the start or have only recently jumped aboard, we’re incredibly grateful for all of the support, and can’t wait to share our new projects with you in due course.

Here’s to a cracking 2024!
